The Best Hot Chocolate Recipe

Written by Roar Elias

Here is a basic hot chocolate recipe you can experiment with:

An instant mixture of hot chocolate which you buy at the store can taste great and it may want to make you come back for more over and over, but when you find out what is in there , then you may want to take the extra effort and make something special yourself. No instant hot chocolate recipe from the store will suddenly be adding fine ingredients like good quality dark chocolate and organic cocoa powder . Once you have your own base recipe, you can then move on to something more creative like adding chilli or orange for a little variation.

Here is a great recipe that you will love. You will soon taste the difference if you compare it to something you buy off the shelves in your supermarket. The ingredients that you use here make all the difference. It may be worth your while making quite a bit at a time and storing it in a jar.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 pints (1.4 litres) whole milk
  • 3 Tbsp Horlicks
  • 3 Tbsp cornflour
  • 3 Tbsp caster sugar
  • 4 Tbsp good quality cocoa powder
  • 100g (3.5 oz) good quality dark chocolate
  • pinch of ground cinnamon

Directions

  1. Bring the milk to boil in a large pan over medium heat
  2. Grate the chocolate.
  3. Put the rest of the ingredients into a bowl and stir them around until them have combined well.
  4. All you do now is to add the chocolate mix to the hot milk and give it a whisk to ensure that it is smooth. Do this for a few minutes so you start to see a little more texture.

Since hot chocolate is something that any child would definitely not pass up, there should be an entire recipe just for the kids. You could use your normal hot chocolate bought at the store, but who would want to do that when you have this amazing mix so use the recipe above. Once you have that, the rest will only take you a couple of minutes.

Kids' Hot Chocolate Recipe

Ingredients

  • Hot chocolate mix (1 Tbsp per mug)
  • Marshmallows (2-3 per person)
  • Whole milk (measure per mug, depending on how many you are making for)
  • Cream, whipped (1 Tbsp per mug)

Directions

  1. Heat the milk up just like before and leave it on a simmer
  2. Arrange the mugs and puts in tablespoon of the mix into each mug. To this you have to add just a little milk so that you dissolve the powder at the bottom and so it forms a paste.
  3. Now drop in two or three marshmallows into each mug and finally take the rest of the milk from the heat and fill the mugs.
  4. Add a tablespoon of cream on top and now you are in heaven. This is not something just for the kids. You are also introducing your kids to fine ingredients and appreciating this will hopefully keep them away from inferior foods and ingredients which have been made to be part of our lives.

If you are going away camping, your trusted chocolate mix should be one of the few things that you should definitely not forget at home because it will make all the difference when you are sitting around the camp fire.
