Luxurious Chocolate Mousse Pie

Written by Roar Elias

Here is a luxurious tasting recipe for dark chocolate mousse pie.

If you are a chocolate lover, then you are really going to be in heaven once you get your teeth stuck into a slice of mousse pie. It's the perfect way to end off your meal on a hot summer's night, but I'm sure anyone who is in favour of chocolate will not pass up the opportunity of something as tasty as this any time of the year.

Chocolate mousse pie has been known to be kind of rich for some, but this is a matter of preference. To even this out, you will place a generous helping of cream on top.

Using good quality ingredients is important. I have gone for lots of eggs here and you might be thinking that is a waste or rather turn to another recipe. There are tons of recipes for this out there, but you will definitely notice what a difference the amount of eggs makes to a dessert like this, making it that much more creamy and rich. You will discover that the luxurious tasting desserts that come from 5 star restaurants all use a lot of eggs.

  • 2 cups dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup butter
  • 8 egg yolks
  • 12 egg whites
  • 1 cup caster sugar
  • 12 chocolate chip cookies
  • 1 cup butter
  • Whipped cream

  1. Melt the chocolate and the butter together
  2. Leave to cool and gradually whisk in the egg yolks
  3. Whip the egg whites to stiff peak stage and add the sugar
  4. Fold this into the chocolate mix
  5. Leave it to set
  6. Meanwhile, get a pie dish and grease it with some butter or cooking spray.
  7. Put the cookies in a food processor and melt the butter. Add this to the cookie mixture until it combines well. You may not need it all so add it a little at a time.
  8. Now start pressing the cookie mixture firmly at the bottom of the dish as well as on the sides and put it in the refrigerator until it starts to firm up.
  9. Once this is firm and your mousse is set you can start putting them together. Spoon the mousse into the pie dish and smooth it over.
  10. Put this in the fridge to set and then put a layer of cream on top. It does look really good with a couple of chocolate curls sprinkled on the top.

Now, if white chocolate is your preferred choice then you can really start to get creative because white chocolate goes really well with things like strawberries, raspberries or cranberries and this kind of combination not only tastes good, but it looks great as well. It can go down very well served with a raspberry sauce. Here you will just need to substitute the dark chocolate for the white chocolate. Keep the other ingredients because you still want to keep that luxurious flavour.

Whether you are a fan of dark or white chocolate, the chocolate mousse pie is something that has made many people very happy and you are more than likely not going to be satisfied with just one slice.
