This Norwegian chocolate frosting recipe has been a family secret and can not be found elsewhere on the web.
It was handed to us by Thea Sophie’s Grandfather on her mother’s side, and goes together with best chocolate cake recipe you will ever taste.
It could be said to have somewhat of a mature taste to it, as it contains both coffee and rum essence (or rum if you prefer), but it is sweet enough to make this a favorite with the kids as well.
The Norwegian version of chocolate cake is a bit different from what is found in other parts of the world, but I recommend trying this chocolate frosting recipe, either with the Norwegian cake as in the original recipe, or in combination with a recipe of your own.
Or why not just make a big bowl of chocolate frosting and enjoy it for its own sake. Bring a spoon!
The recipe contains vanilla sugar, vanilla extract mixed with fine grain sugar, which is not that common outside Scandinavia. If you can not get this where you live, try using vanilla extract and a bit more icing sugar.

Use a high quality coffee of your choice. The amount of rum essence and coffee can be varied according to taste. Feel free to experiment.
If you feel like giving the chocolate frosting a bit more bite, try substituting the rum essence with actual rum. If you do this, however, make sure only adults are served the result. Kids and alcohol is not a good mix.
